whAT IS A NURSE COACH?

What is Holistic NursinG?

Holistic Nursing is comprehensive and focuses on physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual factors.  As nurses we are taught to view our patients as a whole system that is greater than the sum of its parts.

A nursing approach where healing the whole person is prioritized and honors relationship centered care, where the patient/client connects with themself, others, nature, and spirituality.  It focuses on promoting health and wellness, by incorporating Lifestyle Medicine.

Lifestyle Medicine emphasizes promoting and maintaining healthy behaviors that allow the body to prevent, treat, and many times reverse chronic disease.  It uses evidence-based nutrition, stress management and exercise to promote healthy changes, where patients are active partners in their healthcare.  It also treats the underlying lifestyle causes of disease where the provider educates, guides, and supports patients to make behavioral changes.  These changes include optimal nutrition, increase physical activity, stress reduction, risk reduction of substance use, better sleep quality, and increased social connectivity.

Testimonials From Actual Clients

A. BRUCE

I have struggled with willpower and maintaining a healthy diet and exercise program to get to a goal weight for most of my life. During my coaching sessions with Maria, she assisted me in focusing on small goals to work on each week with exercise and diet to try and achieve my goals.  She also was a great listener as I was dealing with a serious medical issue with my mother. Her positive attitude and encouraging words helped me cope with my situation and reminded me to take time to focus on myself.

I enjoyed working with you as you made me accountable for my lifestyle goal changes, I wanted to work on. You were a great listener and allowed me to talk about the family issues I was facing during our time together. I liked the suggestions you offered from the calming music app to try to sleep better each night to the encouragement to eat more and not skip breakfast. Asking me to journal my food intake and exercise time helped me to focus my energies and make myself accountable for my habits.

I gained some confidence in putting myself first and trying to take control of my health. I am meeting with a trainer twice a week and have really changed up my diet/eating habits to help me lose the weight I need to lose, and I am trying to be more cognizant of my eating goals.

Since I have struggled with my weight for most of my life, I was familiar with all I needed to do, but am always lacking motivation to put myself first. I am a caregiver, and always make sure everyone else in my family is taken care of. In the past few years, I have let the stresses of COVID, my teaching career, the loss of my father and father-in-law all take priority. I have a history of stress eating and being more stationary than I needed to be to keep my health the main focus. Maria encouraged me to focus more on my eating & exercise habits and offered several suggestions as to how to incorporate more daily walks into my routine.

Since I have a lot of friends who are still in the teaching field, I would recommend your coaching to all of them who are trying to balance a very stressful work situation teaching at the middle school level while trying to balance their home lives and families. Their stress levels are continually at a high level. I would also recommend your services to anyone who really could use someone to talk to who needs assistance in reaching their life & health goals.
